Problem Statements

Choose from three impactful problem statements and build innovative solutions that empower women.

Problem Statement 1: Building a Safe, Trust-Driven, and Fair Gig Ecosystem for Women Workers

Context

The gig economy offers flexibility and income opportunities, yet women workers often face safety risks, wage inequality, lack of transparency, and limited job security. Existing platforms prioritize scale and speed over worker well-being, leading to trust deficits among women participants.

Problem Definition

There is a need for a digital gig ecosystem that embeds safety, fairness, transparency, and accountability into its core design, rather than treating them as optional features.

Challenge for Participants

Design and develop a tech-enabled solution that improves the working conditions of women gig workers while ensuring reliable and high-quality service delivery.

Key Focus Areas

  • Worker safety and emergency support mechanisms
  • Fair pay visibility and dispute resolution
  • Trust and reputation systems for workers and clients
  • Transparent job allocation and feedback processes

Expected Outcomes

  • • Increased trust and participation of women in gig work
  • • Reduction in safety-related incidents
  • • Improved fairness and accountability in gig transactions

Problem Statement 2: Women Safety Analytics

Context

Women safety initiatives are largely reactive, responding after incidents occur. With the availability of data from cameras, sensors, and user reports, there is an opportunity to adopt AI-driven, predictive safety mechanisms.

Problem Definition

Cities and communities lack intelligent systems that can analyze patterns, detect risky situations, and identify safety hotspots using real-time and historical data.

Challenge for Participants

Build a data-driven women safety analytics solution that transforms raw data into actionable insights for prevention and early intervention.

Key Focus Areas

  • Person detection and gender classification
  • Identification of high-risk or unusual movement patterns
  • Recognition of distress gestures or SOS signals
  • Time and location-based safety hotspot analysis

Constraints to Consider

  • • Privacy preservation and ethical AI use
  • • Avoidance of identity tracking
  • • Real-time or near real-time feasibility

Expected Outcomes

  • • Proactive identification of unsafe zones
  • • Improved situational awareness for authorities or communities
  • • Data-backed safety planning and interventions

Problem Statement 3: Disruptive Innovation for Women Empowerment

Context

Despite digital progress, many women continue to face barriers in livelihood access, skill development, legal awareness, and digital safety. Existing solutions are fragmented and often inaccessible to those most in need.

Problem Definition

There is a need for innovative, inclusive, and scalable digital solutions that empower women socially and economically.

Challenge for Participants

Develop a disruptive technology-driven solution that meaningfully enhances women's empowerment in one or more domains.

Key Focus Areas

  • Women's livelihood generation and financial independence
  • Skill development, learning, and employability
  • Legal awareness, rights education, and digital safety

Innovation Scope

  • • Open-ended problem framing
  • • Encouraged use of emerging technologies
  • • Emphasis on real-world applicability and scalability

Expected Outcomes

  • • Improved access to income or skills
  • • Increased awareness of rights and protections
  • • Sustainable empowerment through technology
